Building History

Our office is located in the historic Avenues district. As one of the oldest neighborhoods in Salt Lake, The Avenues holds a unique place in Utah history. We are excited to be located in this eclectic neighborhood. We have included an excerpt on the home’s history from the state historical register:

In 1899 William Hatfield built this house. Mr. Hatfield was born in England in 1848 and settled in Utah 18 years later. He became known as the man who struck ore in the Bullion Beck mine, and discovered the Swansea mine. He was one of the pioneers of the Tintic mining district and lived in Eureka for many years. He was also connected to the mines at Alta, Utah. In 1905 he sold the house to Mr. John C. Lynch. Mr. Hatfield died in Murray, Utah in 1921.

John C. Lynch was born in Illinois in 1867. At the age of 23 he came to Utah and established a very successful ice business. In 1895 he incorporated under the name of “Salt Lake Ice Company.” He also held mining property in Utah’s Tintic Mining District and owned much Real Estate in Salt Lake City. He was also Director of the National Bank of the Republic.

Lynch’s wife, Jennie Byrne Lynch, lived in the home until 1957. Between 1957 and 1973 the home was owned by Lawrence J. Brennan. In 1973 it was purchased by the Sisters of the Holy Cross and held as a place for “peace and prayer.”

The Singleton Group purchased this beautiful home in May of 2006. After extensive updates and renovations, we began operating from the home in November of 2006.
